Terms of Service
These terms cover Hushtag's website (hushtagprivacy.com), the Hushtag web app, the Hushtag Chrome extension and the Stand-In screenshot tool (together, "Hushtag"). By using Hushtag or buying a plan, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Hushtag.
1. What Hushtag does, and what it doesn't
Hushtag looks for private details in text, files and images, such as names, ID numbers and account numbers, and replaces them with placeholders before you send the result to an AI tool. It runs on your own device.
Detection is a safety net, not a guarantee. Automated detection can miss details, especially names, unusual formats, handwriting and low-quality scans, and can sometimes mask things that aren't private. You are responsible for reviewing what Hushtag masked before you send, share or post anything, and for deciding what information you share with any AI tool or anyone else.
2. Not professional or compliance advice
Hushtag is a software tool. It is not legal, medical, financial, tax or compliance advice, and using it does not by itself make you compliant with any law, regulation or professional rule, including HIPAA, PIPEDA, GDPR or Alberta's Health Information Act. If you handle other people's information for work, you remain responsible for meeting your own obligations. Our guides are general information only.
3. AI tools and other services
ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and the other AI tools Hushtag works with are run by other companies under their own terms and privacy policies. We don't control them and aren't responsible for what they do with what you send them, or for the accuracy of their answers. Hushtag isn't affiliated with or endorsed by them.
4. Your data
Hushtag processes your text, files and images on your device. We don't receive them. Our privacy page explains the few things that do leave your device, such as your license key when it's checked.
5. Plans, payments and refunds
- Paid plans are sold by Lemon Squeezy, a Stripe company, as merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy handles payment, sales tax and invoices under its own terms.
- A Personal license is for one person. A Pro license is for up to 3 people in the same household or organization. Don't share or resell license keys beyond that.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from the link in your receipt email, and your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
- A lifetime (founding member) license means for as long as we offer Hushtag, not your lifetime or ours.
- If Hushtag doesn't work for you, email us within 7 days of your first payment and we'll refund it.
- We may change prices for future billing periods. We'll tell existing subscribers by email before a price change affects them.
6. Acceptable use
Don't use Hushtag to break the law, to hide information you're legally required to disclose, to harass or harm anyone, or to try to get around its license checks. Don't reverse engineer it to build a competing product.
7. Provided "as is"
Hushtag is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that Hushtag will catch every private detail, work without interruption or errors, or suit any particular purpose.
8. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, clients or reputation, arising from your use of Hushtag, including any private detail Hushtag did not mask. Our total liability for any claim relating to Hushtag is limited to the amount you paid us for Hushtag in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow some of these limits, so they apply only as far as your local law permits.
9. Changes and ending
We may update Hushtag and these terms. If we make a material change, we'll update the date above and, for paid customers, let you know by email. You can stop using Hushtag at any time. We may suspend a license that breaks these terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
